The starting blank for the Stage 1 retention clasp.
Each cross arrives with both wire segments already crossed and soldered at the center, at the flattened ~45° angle the Forwardontics protocol calls for. The soldering — the tedious part — is done. The rest is yours to shape.
The long legs sit occlusally and are retained inside the acrylic. The short legs bend gingivally: these are the ones that jump the contact point on insertion and seat below it, hugging the tooth near the cervical area. That is where the clean click comes from, and the stability that holds the appliance through function without rocking.
Supplied raw, without heat treatment.
This is deliberate. The wire is tempered during Stage 1 fabrication, in the lab, once the final geometry of the clasp is known. Treating it earlier gains nothing and limits the work that follows. The cross arrives ready for the lab to bend and temper at the right point in the process.
Keep them in the drawer.
A failed solder joint shouldn't cost you an appointment. With generic crosses on hand, you handle the repair chairside — or extend what the same appliance can do, right there in the visit.
